Current paradigms for accessing the web–via search engines or static taxonomies–have recently been strongly citicized. A third approach–faceted search–focuses on user-centered conceptual exploration and is standard in product selection for e-commerce.

All these issues lead me to develop a mapping algorithm to analyze and display tag structures based on how tags co-occur. Technically, it is based on a vector-space model, where each tagging action is assigned a point in a high-dimensional vector space.

A vertical search engine may need to sweep the entire web in order to find a small number of relevant pages. Costs are proportional to the size of the set of input pages, but revenue is proportional to the size of the subset. Supplies page and link info.
